Interceptors are Future Age air units. This is the base unit available, and is most effective against other air units. It's speed can be boosted with the Interceptor AI research, and it's damage can be boosted by the Computed Manoeuvering research, although that will limit the unit to air combat only. They have two variants, the VTOL and the NGAD.
